Tracks (Autism) a local charity to me in Hertfordshire, England, has arranged a two night screening of Snowcake to take place on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th of January 2007. The venue is the Campus West Theatre in Welwyn Garden City , Hertfordshire easily accessible from London by train.
The evening will start with pre-film drinks and a chance to find out about the work of Tracks (Autism) which provides pre-school and respite care for children with autism.
Film will start at 8pm and will be followed by a Question and Answer Session.
Guests for the Q&A are principally Ros Blackburn - the delightful and fascinating autistic woman who worked with Sigourney Weaver to create the character of Linda.
And/or Alan Rickman , Marc Evans (the Director), Gina Carter (Producer) and Angela Pell (Screenwriter).
Tickets are priced at £10 (Includes pre-film drink) and are available through the Campus West Box Office on 01707 357117
I cannot absolutely confirm at this stage if Alan will definitely be attending but if he does it will most likely be on the 16th.
I am also not sure of the state of the bookings as tickets have been on sale to members and supporters of Tracks for a couple of weeks but this post is the first public announcement.
Please do not cross post these details on other groups as I have obtained special permission from the organiser to release the information today. (links are fine!)
This promises to be a very special screening of Snowcake with an audience best placed to understand and appreciate the character that Sigourney was trying to portray.
I hope to see some of you there.

I can't wait to see the movie... but I'm wary. Autism isn't something I take lightly, as I have autistic family members, and have worked with autistic children. I hope it's taken seriously in the movie and not made into some caricature of a disease.

I am incredibly lucky that she lives locally and is happy to talk to parents groups about her life - her insights are invaluable.
I'm confident that the movie takes the condition seriously as the screenwriter Angela Pell also has an autistic son.
In any case if it doesn't they are going to have a whole audience asking them why!

I didn't know that about the screenwriter. It's comforting.

Sadly, due to my Directing schedule, I can't afford to go anywhere or do anything that doesn't directly effect my degree. I wish I could go as I enjoyed the movie and would love to hear from Ros Blackburn.

Snowcake is scheduled to be released on Feb 7th in the UK (amazon.co.uk), region 2.
It isn't even listed on Amazon.com, for the US or Amazon.ca, for Canada. You would think it would atleast be listed there since it was filmed in Canada.
I really hope it comes out for Region 1, but will get region 2 if that is all that is available.
Keep your fingers crossed.
